THE GOLDEN AGE
ORDER OF THE GRIFFIN SHIPS
(GA1.1) HEAVY CRUISER (CA):
The Order of the Griffin Heavy Cruiser was a respected starship during the Golden Age, primarily because of the number of Tri-Phasers it carried. Eight Tri-Phasers were supplemented by four rapid firing Photon Bolts and one Drone Platform Type-A. The Drone Platform provided constant missile support as the Order of the Griffin Heavy Cruiser engaged in battle. This fast and maneuverable Heavy Cruiser formed the mainline for the Order of the Griffin. It performed many other functions other than direct combat. Often, its presence alone in a region was enough to deter potential threats.
DESIGNER NOTES:
The Order of the Griffin Heavy Cruiser sets the stage for the rest of the Golden Age to unfold. This starship, while reminiscent of the Federation Heavy Cruiser, is substantially different in design and function. It is faster and more maneuverable, but possesses less internals. The Order of the Griffin Heavy Cruiser cannot generate as powerful an Alpha Strike as the Federation Heavy Cruiser.
The Photon Bolts carried by the Order of the Griffin Heavy Cruiser tend toward Disruptor Tactics, but at the same time possess Photon Damage properties, potentially leading to brand new Tactics.
The Drone Platform changes combat completely for the Order of the Griffin Heavy Cruiser, because instead of having a built-in internal Drone Rack (like the Federation Heavy Cruiser), it must launch the Drone Platform in the early moments of the engagement, protect and keep it safe during combat, and recover it once the battle is won.
PHOTON BOLTS (PHB):
⦁ May be fired in Standard, Proximity, or Overload Mode
⦁ May be fired once every turn
⦁ Standard Mode requires 3 points of energy to arm
⦁ Proximity Mode requires 3 points of energy to arm
⦁ Overload Mode requires 5 points of energy to arm
⦁ Standard/Proximity Mode can be held for 1 point of energy each turn
⦁ Overload Mode can be held for 2 points of energy each turn
⦁ Photon Bolts are destroyed on TORP hits on the DAC
⦁ Treat Photon Bolts as Disruptor Bolts for all other aspects not noted above
DRONE PLATFORM TYPE-A (DRPL):
⦁ Treat the Drone Platform as a Shuttle/Fighter that has its own bay to launch from. The bay is destroyed on DRONE hits on the DAC.
⦁ The Drone Platform Type-A has a maximum Speed of 2, carries no weapons other than Drones, and requires 8 Damage Points in order to be destroyed. Each point of damage will destroy one Drone it carries (and prevent Reloading of that destroyed Drone).
⦁ The Drone Platform Type-A can control up to 4 Drones (F3.22) at once. This control cannot be transferred.
⦁ Note that although the Drone Platform is treated as a Shuttle/Fighter, it must still fulfill the Control Conditions under (F3.31).
⦁ The Drone Platform Type-A carries 8 Type G1 Drones. The launching ship carries one full set of Reloads, but the Drone Platform must be recovered from space in order for the Reloading Process to begin.
⦁ The Drone Platform Type-A can launch one Type G1 Drone per turn (not within 8 impulses of a previous launch).
⦁ The Drone Platform can launch Drones at different targets.
⦁ TYPE G1 DRONE – SPEED 16 ENDURANCE 2 WARHEAD 6 DAMAGE 2 SPACE 1
⦁ Treat Drone Platforms as Shuttles/Fighters for all other aspects not noted above
TRI-PHASERS (TPH):
⦁ Tri-Phasers may be fired in Triple, Double, or Single Mode once per turn (not within 8 impulses of a previous firing). The Mode of Firing is decided and announced at the time of firing.
⦁ Tri- Phasers draw power from the Phaser Capacitor the same as Alpha Sector Phasers do. When counting maximum energy that the Phaser Capacitor can hold, treat the Tri-Phaser as a Phaser-1.
⦁ Triple Mode costs 1 point of energy to fire.
⦁ Double Mode costs 0.5 point of energy to fire.
⦁ Single Mode costs 0.25 point of energy to fire.
⦁ To calculate damage in Triple Mode, roll on the Tri-Phaser Table, determine the damage based on range, and then multiply the result by 3.
⦁ To calculate damage in Double Mode, roll on the Tri-Phaser Table, determine the damage based on range, and then multiply the result by 2.
⦁ To calculate damage in Single Mode, roll on the Tri-Phaser Table, determine the damage based on range, and use the result.
⦁ Tri- Phasers are destroyed on PHASER hits on the DAC.
⦁ Treat Tri-Phasers as Phasers for all other aspects not noted above.
