GARGANTUA
PROMETHEUS SHIPS
(GR1.1) PROMETHEUS HEAVY CRUISER (CA):
The Prometheus Heavy Cruiser was a deep space vessel armed with great destructive power. Its primary mission was exploration and peaceful contact with alien civilizations. Like all starships in Gargantua, the mere size of the Prometheus Heavy Cruiser was enough to convince even aggressive species to resort to communications rather than conflict.
When forced to fight, the Prometheus Heavy Cruiser would reply heavily upon its Phaser-IV’s to wear down an opponent’s shields. After this had been accomplished, the Prometheus Heavy Cruiser would secure a tactically advantageous position on the battlefield and finish its adversary with its devastating Titan Torpedoes. The Prometheus Heavy Cruiser would always attempt to cripple the enemy starship if possible, rather than completely obliterating it.
The Shriek Missiles carried by the Prometheus Heavy Cruiser were limited in quantity and therefore, sparingly used. Prometheus Captains were well aware that a well timed Shriek Missile could be the decisive element in drawn out battle. For this reason, Shriek Missiles were reserved for the latter stages of combat, when they made the most difference, rather than as an opening strike where their full potential was wasted.
Seasoned Prometheus Captains knew that their entire defense was contingent on the continued operation of their Rotating Shields. While each Rotating Shield provided only minimal protection, their true value lay in their constant regenerative properties. Even the loss of one Rotating Shield could may well have meant the loss of the entire battle for the Prometheus Heavy Cruiser.
